Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival Canceled

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The 19th Annual Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The festival was scheduled to take place on August 21-22.

“Each dragon boat contains 20 people in very close proximity to each other,” explains Patricia Finney, Co-Chair of the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival. “Since we don’t know where things will stand with social distancing guidelines by the time of the festival, combined with the time and effort it takes to make this festival the special event that it is, we decided to take an abundance of caution and keep people safe by canceling this year’s festival.”

“We want to thank all the teams and partners who had committed to our 2020 festival,” says Mark Johnson, Co-Chair of the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival. “While we’re canceling this year’s festival with heavy hearts, we’re looking forward to the 2021 festival–which will be our 20th annual–and focusing on making this our best yet.”

Event organizers say the 20th Annual Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival will happen on August 27-28, 2021.
