Sailboat Heavily Damaged in Fire at Duluth Marina

DULUTH, Minn. – A sailboat caught fire in a Duluth marina Monday afternoon causing an estimated $40,000 damage, according to the Duluth Fire Department.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday at the Harbor Cove Marina.

Fire crews arriving first on the scene found a 40-foot sailboat tied to the dock with heavy smoke and flames coming from the boat.

Reports state that the boat owner attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, but was overcome with flames in the cabin area.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames and the sailboat was pulled from the water so water on board could be taken off on land for environmental reasons.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.
