Federal Tax Filing Deadline Moved to May 17th

The federal tax deadline is being delayed from April 15th to May 17th as more people deal with complicated filings because of COVID.

HERMANTOWN, Minn. – The federal tax deadline is being delayed from April 15th to May 17th as more people deal with complicated filings because of COVID.

The deadline applies to federal income tax returns and taxes. There’s no word on any deadline changes for the state of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Either way, tax experts say it’s best to file as soon as possible.

“The only warning I would give people is this,” said TJ Johnson, the president of Thorlackson Tax & Consulting. “IT’s only a month. If you have yourself ready to go, just get them done because it gets to be such a headache.”

As for stimulus checks, tax experts tell us they don’t get any special information on that. It’s all through the IRS and you can check your stimulus status on the IRS website.
