Douglas County Veterans Office to Plant 5,000 Flags in Cemeteries of Fallen Soldiers for Memorial Day

SUPERIOR, Wis.– With Memorial Day around the corner, the Douglas County Veterans Office is looking for flag planters to honor military members lost in the line of duty. The goal is to plant 5,000 flags in cemeteries around Superior including Greenwood, Riverside, Hebrew and Graceland Cemeteries.

“Memorializing and giving tribute to the people who helped us get here is very important I believe,” Erick Hudson, an Army veteran and current Veterans Service Officer, said, “you have people who come up and say ‘thanks for your service’, but to really see the community put some actions behind those words was really overwhelming and it was really just a great experience last year”.

Hudson and the Veterans Office are hoping for the same turnout this year, encouraging those who are interesting in helping plant flags to call the office at 715-395-1477. Planting is over two days, May 27th and 28th, starting at 9:00 AM both days.
