UMD Students Return to Campus

DULUTH, Minn. — It was a familiar sight at UMD Monday afternoon as thousands of students could be seen walking the halls of campus headed to class.

We caught up with one student who says it’s great to be back, especially for the new students who finally get that college experience of being on campus.

“Just to see a lot of people just walking around. Not really see their faces because we have masks on right now. Just to see a lot of people because last year it was like a ghost town. Now you see a lot of people just like it was my freshman year, it feels really good,” UMD Junior, Charlie Gorres says.

In the food court, there are some new signs up and even a new sushi restaurant.

Staff there are excited to be serving students again.

“It’s phenomenal. Especially after the pandemic. It was so slow. This is why I work here. For the students and their energy. It’s just great,” UMD Dining Center Staff Member, Jody Larson says.

The food court serves roughly two to three thousand people a week and two to three million per year.
