Inline Marathon Expo Kicks off Race Weekend

DULUTH, Minn.– People were rolling into the DECC Friday as the North Shore Inline Marathon celebrates its 25th anniversary, and begins their weekend full of events. Racers were able to pick up their race packets, check out some of the vendors, and get the chance to meet people from all over who come to participate in this event.

The race route is unique in that it goes through the I-35 tunnels of Duluth. One man from Chicago is here for his 16th year and cant wait to get started in Two Harbors, Saturday morning.

“It’s just a straight shot and if you can get the wind at your back, you can have a good time, your time will be like under an hour if you got the right wind, or no wind and its a nice smooth surface so you can go pretty fast,” Scott Muhne, Chicago Resident and 16 time Inline Marathon Racer, said.

Close to 2,000 racers will take part in the 10k, the half and full marathon, and the combined race. Executive Director Skeeter Moore is happy to see it all come together at the expo.

“It’s so fun to see the people, its almost like a family reunion, people come from all over the country here to skate this event, its so fun to see it after working all year and having it come to Duluth as being the nations largest in line skating event is spectacular,” Moore said.

The races start at 6:45 AM in Two Harbors and are expected to be done around 1:00. I-35 should then be open around 2.
