MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The watch list for this year’s award was released this week and Hibbing’s Ayden McDonald and Deer River’s Ty Morrison are on the list.

McDonald, whose grandfather Bob is the namesake of the award, is averaging over 30 points and 10 assists per game for the Bluejackets. Morrison leads the Warriors in nearly every statistical category, including points, rebounds and assists.

The top ten will be announced on February 14th and the winner will be revealed after the state tournament.

The list of winners of the Mr. Minnesota Basketball Award is pretty loaded. We’ve got local guys like Greg Downing, Joel McDonald and Rick Rickert. Last year’s winner Chet Holmgren is one of the best players in college basketball. And there’s an NBA Hall of Famer by the name of Kevin McHale, who is also a Northland native.
