Northwestern Boys Basketball Still Not Satisfied After Capturing Heart ‘O North Conference Title

The Tigers are looking to go undefeated in the conference for the first time in over a decade.

MAPLE, Wis. – This past weekend, we crowned a Super Bowl champion. But we also had a local championship too, as the Northwestern boys basketball team captured the Heart ‘O North title in very convincing fashion.

The Tigers defeated Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 84-60 on Saturday night. Monte Mayberry led the way with 28 points, while Jase Nelson and Cole Lahti each chipped in with 16 points. But the team says the job is not done yet.

“It gives us a lot of momentum going into the playoffs. Winning the Heart of the North, this isn the goal that we wanted. We want to get undefeated so far and then we’ll go to the playoffs from there,” Nelson said.

“Some of the injuries we’ve had and some of the things that we have overcome through the course of the season, the adversity, the ups and downs, we’re excited about the position we’re in. Locking up the conference kind of early with a few games left is always a nice thing. But we still know the job isn’t done. We want to do it undefeated, which hasn’t been done in over ten years here,” said head coach Nolan Graff.

Northwestern will be back at home Tuesday night when they host Hurley.
