Man With Sword Safely Detained After Standoff In Greysolon Apartment

UPDATE (February 6, 3:55 p.m.) — A man with a sword who barricaded himself in a Duluth apartment for more than four hours Monday surrendered to authorities without harming anyone.

It happened in an apartment on the 8th floor of the Greysolon building.

Authorities tried negotiating with the “agitated” man by phone for hours until the Tactical Response Team breached the door and safely detained the man.

The sword was also confiscated.

The man, who was not identified, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and a mental health evaluation, according to police.

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Police Department says they are on scene of an “unwanted” man who barricaded himself in an apartment at Greysolon in Downtown Duluth. The incident is actively occurring as of a little after noon on Monday.

Police say negotiations are being made with the man over the phone with their Crisis Negotiations Team.

Authorities say he allegedly is armed with an edged weapon and no one else is in the apartment with him. The Tactical Response Team is responding to this incident.
