Tie Vote Defeats Resoluion on Nuclear Disarmament

Duluth, Minn. –The Duluth City Council held its regular meeting on Monday night and on the agenda was a resolution to support an international treaty banning nuclear weapons.
The resolution failed as the final vote was tied at four to four
Last week on International Women’s Day, a group of supporters in Duluth held a rally on the steps of City Hall extolling the virtues and reasons they felt the council should pass the resolution.
Many of the same people who were at that rally also spoke at the council meeting.
The council members were split, some believing the resolution would overstep their authority and others saying nuclear weapons and nuclear war are everyone’s responsibility.
