Gordy’s Hi-Hat In Cloquet Opens For 63rd Season

CLOQUET, Minn. — The first taste of spring is here with the season opening of Gordy’s Hi-Hat in Cloquet kicking off Wednesday.

The weather did not stop people from lining up at the door waiting for their food. And with this 63rd season of Gordy’s, the first 50 people to arrive received free t-shirts.

Gordy’s is known for its burgers, shakes, fish, and onion rings that they have made the same way since they first opened. Longtime customers also adore the 60s diner-like atmosphere that has never changed.

The restaurant hopes guests feel like they’re stepping back in time when they walk in.

“Our customers want the same thing that they had last year. And if some grandparents are bringing in their grandkids, they wanna say ‘hey this is the same burger I had back in 1960.’ So, it’s really that’s what we try to do here is make sure that everything is exactly the same as it has been since Gordy and Marilyn, my grandparents first opened the place 63 years ago,” said Sever Lundquist, Gordy’s grandson.

One customer has been coming to Gordy’s opening day since the restaurant first opened. He says going to the restaurant feels exactly the same as it did back in 1960.

“I’ve been coming to Gordy’s since I was 5 years old when it first opened. We used to get 5 hamburgers for a dollar,” said Jaf Olesiak, returning Gordy’s customer. “It’s comfort food. It’s like you want, it’s like going in the old days, keeping the old days alive.”

Gordy’s Hi-Hat is open every day of the week, check out their website for more information.
