3 killed in 40-vehicle pileup on slick Michigan interstate

Several crashes reported near Detroit

Authorities say three people have died and 11 others are hurt following a pileup on a snow-slickened Interstate 96 near Lansing, Michigan.Lt. Eric Sanborn of the Livingston County Sheriff Department confirmed the three deaths Thursday in the pileup involving about 40 vehicles. He says 11 other people were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.Sanborn says westbound lanes of the interstate about 55 miles west of Detroit remained closed about 5{ hours after the pileup began Thursday morning.Several crashes also were reported on Detroit-area freeways

Fatal Rollover Crash in Bayfield County

Victim has been identified

On September 19, 2016 at around 6:30 p.m., the Bayfield County Communications Center received a call reporting a vehicle rollover with one person lying outside of the vehicle and one person still in the vehicle on Yderstad Road in the Township of Kelly. The vehicle was reported to have extensive damage.

Smithson Sentenced for Vehicular Homicide

David Andrew Smithson, 27, of Duluth was sentenced Monday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of a controlled substance when his vehicle struck and killed pedestrian Brian Respler on Dec. 19, St. Louis County Attorney, Mark Rubin said.

On July 18, 2016 at around 9:30 A.M, a 911 call was received by the Bayfield County Communications center, from a WisDOT official, who was assessing damage to the washout on Highway 63 just north of Grand View, reporting a vehicle crash.
