DULUTH, Minn. – The ski hills at Spirit Mountain are welcoming a group of special guests this week. Today kicked off the fifteenth annual Great Lake Mono Ski Madness. It’s a camp that focuses on the mono-ski, which allows folks with disabilities to shoot down the hills at top speed. The event is put on by Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute….

With over forty volunteers helping out, some specialized clinicians will be coming from as far as the Rocky Mountains.

The Saturday activities throughout the neighborhood will be free for families to enjoy.

According to a spokesperson with the City of Duluth, the Aerial Lift Bridge was included in a write-up for the Governor's recommended $200 million for the Bridge Replacement Program.

The city does want to remind people that Cascade Park is never an area for these tricks outside of organized events.

By Sunday only a few skis, snowboards and boots sat in the room at the Spirit Mountain Chalet.

Preparations for the 48th Annual Ski Swap are underway.

The resort has the goal of opening in late November depending on the weather.

The Duluth City Council voted unanimously to fork over $300,000 to Spirit Mountain to help it re-open this coming winter, and tabled a resolution which would cancel work on the Lakewalk by Beacon Pointe.

The proposal would call for $340,000 from the half-and-half tourism tax to reimburse Spirit Mountain for money they spent on their lift system, snow-making equipment and alpine coaster over 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The adventure park's financial request comes while the city is facing a potential $38 million budget shortfall.
