The two mile long runway that has been in use for 60 years will soon be undergoing renovations which could affect businesses that regularly utilize the airport.
The $43 million renovation will take place in three different phases. During this time, the runway will be closed for 60 days.
Businesses and community members who utilize the airport are not happy about the closure, however airport officilas say that the rehabilitation is neccesary.
Tom Werner, the Executive Director of Duluth Airport Authority, said "Our number one priority is safety and security, its our core mission and its something that we take very seriously and that we are proud of."
The construction of the new runway will start soon and it will be completed by the Summer of 2018.
After that, they say they wont have to renovate the runway for another 60 years.
