Businesses along Hayward’s Main Street look forward to Birkebeiner visitors all year long as winter is considered the slow season.
The owner at Sophie’s Dog Bakery says she depends on the economic impact Birkie visitors bring in to keep her shop up and running.
“It was so cold so we didn’t know if we would be seeing anybody but it’s starting to pick up now,” said Sophie’s Dog Bakery owner Jan Beatty. “It gets a little quiet after the holidays, but we all look forward to February because we know this is just a big weekend for all of us.”
The big Swix Birkie 50K/54K race kicks off Saturday morning at 8:00.
Birkie events wrap up Sunday afternoon.
