Taxpayers can get free in person assistance at the Duluth Public Library.
According to the IRS, an estimated one in five EITC, eligible taxpayers do not claim it.
Community Action Duluth, Tax Site Program Coordinator, Julia Cheng wants to aim for a higher goal.
“We want 5 out of 5 taxpayers and families who qualify for the earned income tax credit to really take advantage of it. We’d like it even better when taxpayers use pretax preparation to claim that credit,” Cheng said.
Last year, Community Action’s free tax site volunteers helped taxpayers claim $3.5 million in refunds, with nearly $1 million consisting of the EITC alone.
Cheng says eligible taxpayers in Duluth should take advantage of filing their taxes for free on Friday at the library or at one of the Community Action Duluth’s free tax sites from now until April 15th.
Community Action tax prep clinics are held at 2424 West 5th Street, Suite 102.
Doors are open for walk-in service every Monday and Tuesday at 4:30 pm, every Saturday at 8:45 am and at 4:30 pm on Tax Day, April 15.
