A famous photographer with roots in Superior is being honored for his long list of accomplishments.

Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen declared Friday David F. Barry Day.

Barry was born on March 6, 1854 and died on his 80th birthday.

In the late 1800’s Barry took pictures of Native Americans and soldiers.

His work was published in many magazines and newspapers and still lives on today.

“His images of Sitting Bull, Rain in the Face, Gaul, Buffalo Bill, and many more have become visual icons of the Wild West,” read Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen while making the proclamation.

Saturday evening the Douglas County Historical Society is throwing a birthday party for Barry.
