University of Wisconsin – Superior is leading the way in being an energy efficient campus.

You’re sure to notice a small difference when you walk into the restroom.

Two buildings on campus including Yellowjacket Union have dual-flush toilets.

You push the handle up for liquid waste, and down for solid.

Thanks to the change the toilets only use half as much water as a traditional flush.

“We have had some positive reaction,” said interim director of facilities at UWS, Dustin Johnson. “Students do notice that we are doing sustainability efforts on campus.”

Campus officials say they even made the handle green and included instructions on the wall so the new technology is user friendly.

“It’s just good for them [students] to know that we are trying to be responsible with the energy costs, with water consumption, heating costs things of that nature,” said Johnson.

As renovations happen throughout campus old toilets will be replaced with the energy efficient dual-flush technology.
