What was thought to be a normal Saturday morning wasn’t so normal for 8th grader Alayna and 11th grader Trevor when they looked up from their couch and saw a bald eagle on the top of their garage.
The majestic bird was injured when it flew away from the garage and fell from the trees.
That’s when the two took it into their own hands to save its life.
They rushed out the door and saw it lying on the ground.
After they saw it was injured, they grabbed a blanket to take it into their barn.
Shortly after, the DNR arrived to take it to a wildlife rescue center where it was nursed and eventually transferred to the Raptor Center in the Twin Cities.
After all the commotion, the two are still in awe two days later.
“I was amazed. I was shocked. I didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t thinking straight. Is this real?” questioned Alayna Rigg.
The family believes the animal had a seizure.
Results came back from the Raptor Center saying the animal tested positive for lead poisoning.
It will have to spend a couple months recovering before it can come back home.
