January tourism numbers are in and Duluth City Officials could not be happier with the outcome.
A mild winter and an increase in hotel occupancy and restaurant sales contributed to a 20% increase in tourism compared to last year.
City officials say the vibrancy in Duluth is to thank for the accomplishment.
“People from the Cities want to come up here and see what’s going on. They hear about the construction and things happening here. So, there’s just that positive buzz and that’s paying off in a lot of ways. Not only is there that tourism, but residents come out and spend more money and it’s a win-win all around,” said Communications & Policy Director, Daniel Fanning.
Because more residents are out and about, there was an increase of $100,000.
“We’ve save a great deal of money on road salt, sand and the overtime we needed last year because last winter was so bad,” Fanning expressed.
February numbers will be in next week.
