Ice Sculpture Comes Down — This Time On Purpose

Fourth time’s a charm! After three attempts in three days, the ice sculpture at Barker’s Island finally came crumbling down Thursday afternoon.

Roger Hanson, better known as The Iceman, has been running heated electric cables through the sculpture the past few days in an attempt to break up the ice. Thursday, something finally gave way.

“I feel great. I’ve been looking for this day for the last five or six days here. This is a great day, now I can go home,” Hanson said.

The Iceman is already planning for next winter, when he hopes to attain the Guinness World Record for tallest ice sculpture in the world — right here in Superior.
