The Duluth City Council last received a pay increase nearly 20 years ago.
In two weeks 3rd District Councilor Sharla Gardner will ask members of the Duluth City Charter Commission to consider whether it’s time to consider a pay raise.
Proponent for the raise, Linda Krug, says although it’s a part time job there are weeks when councilors put in more than 20 hours.
“I think that when you raise salaries you make a statement about how much you value work and how important you think it is,” said Krug.
Councilors pay is currently $833 per month which amounts to nearly $10,000 a year.
