“Open play gym” are the magic words every kid wants to hear.

Monday, the Duluth Kids Club began its two-week free play gym at the Duluth Heights Community Center.

$2,000 in toys were available for kids to play with, as the organization tries to find a permanent home for kids to play indoors year round.

“We really need a space for kids to go and stay warm and dry and a temperature–controlled space where even grandparents can come on a really hot day, and kind of come inside and play on the playground,” said Duluth Kids Club Founder Brandi Worthing.

The organization plans to open an indoor playground in the future, and right now is trying to gauge kids’ favorite activities.

“We want to know what do families want. I’ve had a lot of people say they would love an indoor basketball court, a place to kick a soccer ball, a place to climb and swing and run and play and scream,” explained Worthing.
