Lake Superior experienced an early thaw making now a great time to get out on the water.
“The lake’s open,” says Jake Boyce. “Kayak season has started.”
For Boyce, one of the guys behind Day Tripper of Duluth, going to work means sharing his passion for the Great Outdoors.
“Duluth is becoming more of an adventure city,” says Boyce. “It’s becoming more known for its outdoor scene.
Duluth’s outdoor scene is drifting towards kayaks. Boyce says about 80 percent of Day Tripper’s summer tours are guiding kayakers on the lake.
“It’s a really good way to get out on the water,” said Boyce. “Maybe get some exercise while you’re doing it.” The best part about kayaking is that anyone can do it… even beginners.
“It’s a really stable way to get out on the water,” said Boyce. “It’s really quick to set up. You can stay close to shore if you’re nervous, or you can paddle kayaks across the ocean if you desire.”
Boyce says tourists are a big part of Day Tripper’s business. However, they serve locals as well.
“There’s a lot of people that live in Duluth that have never been on Lake Superior,” said Boyce. “We like to get those people out.”
