Serious fire danger is on from the Northern Plains to the Upper Midwest and right into the Northland.

A Fire Weather Watch will go into effect at 10 a.m. Thursday for the FOX 21 viewing area in northern Minnesota.

Meanwhile Wednesday night, fire experts were on high alert in the Northland as warmer, dryer and windier air continues to push into the state.

And it comes on top of dismal snow the past few months.

Also on Wednesday, wind-whipped flames already destroyed homes in the Twin Cities area.

High winds spread flames that destroyed two homes in St. Paul Wednesday.

And in Otsego, fire destroyed at least three homes under construction.
Officials said a grass fire was to blame.

Nobody was injured.

Meanwhile, officials with the Duluth Fire Department are asking everyone to say on high alert.

“When conditions are really dry like this, and the winds are going to be kicking up, it doesn’t take much to start a fire. So, it’s really important that we be aware of certain things that could potentially cause a fire,” said Capt. Andy Golz, with the Duluth Fire Dept.
