Wednesday, music pulsed through the halls at UMD, as local artists and students celebrated the first–ever campus–wide music festival.
NorthFest, put on by the campus and community public radio station KUMD, featured performers who had a connection to the city or school.
“We wanted to bring live, local music to campus so students could hear it, explore it, and get to know it a little bit, and maybe scope it out outside of campus and go to their shows,” said Emma Deaner, assistant marketing director at KUMD.
The festival honored the 200-plus bands that live in Duluth.
“Music is a quintessential element of anyone’s life. We feel as a public radio station it’s our duty as a campus station and as a community station to bring those two worlds together in the form of music,” added Deaner.
Music followed students through their daily life on campus starting at a café at 9 a.m. through midnight.
