Washburn city officials are in the early stages of redeveloping the 30 acres of land along the Chequamegon Bay.
The city is buzzing with ideas and plans are starting to become a reality.
Many know Thompson’s West End Park in Washburn to be used as a seasonal campground and walking trail.
But, conversations have prompted over the years to expand along the crown jewel that is Lake Superior.
City Officials say enhancing the area will generate more revenue and better support the parks.
Expanding the camping area is high on their list.
They say it will give visitors a taste of what it’s like to live on the North Coast by also adding more amenities for residents.
“A park for the people that live here includes improvements to the playground and beach and perhaps expanding the trails,” said Washburn’s Mayor, Scott Griffiths.
Pavillions and a Frisbee golf course are also some ideas being tossed around.
The committee is planning to present their framework plan to the council next Monday.
City officials tell Fox 21 shovels won’t hit the ground for another couple years.
After plans are finalized in August, the city will look at how to fund the project.
