Krug Won’t Seek Send Term on Duluth Council
Duluth City Councilor Won't Run for 2nd Term
Linda Krug, Duluth City Councilor at Large, Thursday announced she will not seek a second term on the Council.
“It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Duluth and to work with the Ness Administration in moving the City forward. We have accomplished a great deal in these past three and a half years.”
Krug noted her participation in advancing the City’s vast economic developments, including Hawk Ridge Estates, the Maurices Tower, Bluestone Lofts and Retail, Pier B, the Norshore Theater, Spirit Mountain and, most recently, the Harbor Bay Flats housing/retail project and the development of the St. Louis River Corridor.
An outdoor enthusiast, Krug has been a strong proponent of the City’s enhancements of its parks and outdoor recreational opportunities.
She also played a role in closing down the Last Place on Earth and in regulating e-cigarettes.
Krug pointed to her recent retirement from the University of Minnesota Duluth and to the launch of a new speech writing and speech coaching business later this year as reason for not seeking a second term.
“Having retired from UMD last December, I now have the opportunity to focus my time and energy on what has long been both my craft and my passion: assisting business and community leaders in becoming excellent public speakers.”
Krug will continue to be involved in the business of the City throughout the remainder of her Council term, as always providing an independent and thorough review of the issues.
Krug will also remain involved in the region once her term on the Council ends. “Duluth is my home and I expect to play a role in its civic life.”
In January, Krug was reappointed by Governor Dayton to a second four-year term on the state-wide Commission for Judicial Selection.
She is currently secretary of the St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation Board and a Director of Park State Bank.
For the remainder of the year will continue to serve as the Council’s Intergovernmental Liaison, and as Council representative to DEDA, Visit Duluth, the Parking Commission, and Glensheen.
