The Grand Rapids Police Department received a donation of stuffed animals from the Itasca County Historical Society.

Each officer now carries a furry friend in his or her patrol squad to give out to young children involved in an accident.

“I think it brings the community better together,” said Sergeant Brent Bradley with the Grand Rapids PD. “Itasca County Historical Society saw a need within the community that the police department can fulfill, so they’re just donating something that they didn’t really need anymore and then we can pass it on to people who really need it, kids that really need them.”

Officers say they oftentimes help the children name their new stuffed animal.
