Duluth Police Urge Safety During Nerf Wars Games
Duluth Police Ask for Safety During Nerf Wars
Duluth Police are highlighting their concerns over a game teens are playing.
Officers say they have noticed dangerous driving habits in connection to the game in the past and want to avoid them from happening again with Hermantown Police seeing problems stemming from the game.
The Nerf wars game is a social media craze that has high schoolers running around with Nerf guns.
Kids and teams buy in to play.
Some of the prizes are worth more than $1,500.
Then they shoot and kill one another with foam bullets.
Police say they just want people to stay safe after they experienced the dangers of the game first hand.
“You know we don’t want to be seen as the fun police. However, we want people to actually be, to use good judgement when it comes to driving. “Our concern is you know the driving conduct and driving behavior, young kids getting into the vehicles, just jumping into the vehicles and not putting their seat belts on. We’re seeing kids running around town competing, driving recklessly. “We’re concerned for their safety, other motorists safety, as well as pedestrians,” said Duluth Police Officer Ron Tinsley.
Tinsley added, “Last year working an extra enforcement, traffic enforcement job and I had two vehicles that ran a red light up in the Woodland Avenue and a vehicle coming the opposite direction had to apply its brakes.”
Police say they will be looking for and citing reckless drivers and those not wearing seat belts to try and prevent any incidents from happening.
