It’s a little beetle, but causes a big problem.

Emerald ash borers pose a threat to streams and rivers in Superior.

Wednesday, in celebration of Earth Day, The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve informed locals about the threat these invasive beetles cause, specifically to ash trees, and with that, our water.

“Every tree in a forest plays a certain role, and ash trees are both culturally significant, black ash basket trees are really important, and really important for water quality because of the way they hold the soil,” said Deanna Erickson with the Lake Superior NERR.
