Duluth Volunteer Returns from Helping IL Tornado Victims

After two weeks of helping victims of the Illinois tornadoes, a Duluth Red Cross volunteer has returned home.

David Gearou spent two weeks serving in Fairdale.

The small town was rocked by a twister leaving only one building that didn’t need to be torn down.

Gearou, along with hundreds of volunteers, dedicated hours to helping victims get back on their feet.

“There’s church groups that came with little buses, individual families. So, really resilient, they wanted to help,” said Gearou. “You’re there at their disaster. They’ve lost loved ones. So it’s emotional. You’re kind of torn. You’re happy to be there to help, but kind of feel guilty because you’re there at their expense.”

Gearou has helped at 11 other disasters across the country.
