The snow melting months earlier end has allowed Duluth to get a head start in picking up trash in parks and trails.
City employees are starting to get rid of the garbage that’s been lying underneath the snow.
They say the biggest problem isn’t the general trash they find but with illegal dumping.
Officials say it’s on the rise and are sending out a warning to the public.
“If you’re going to go use a park and you’re going to bring something there, bring it back with you and recycle it at home or reuse or re-purpose it. Try to minimize the amount of trash you are actually putting into our system,” said Building and Ground Supervisor for the City, Dale Sellner.
Four people are dedicated daily to dealing with trash pickup and the city hires 20 temporary workers to help with summer pickup.
