A tree representing life, was planted Monday morning to remember lives lost.
Workers’ Memorial Day is celebrated each year to honor those who put others first.
“Workers give so much of their time and lives to the work that makes a difference in the lives of so many,” said Cathy Schuyler.
The day is also meant to recognize unsafe working conditions and what can be done to fix them.
“They aren’t only remembered by their families, but they’re remembered by their community, their union,” said Schuyler.
Forty years ago, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, promising every worker the right to a safe job.
