Minnesota Secretary of State, Steve Simon visited UMD Thursday afternoon to talk about the importance of voting.

“You may think you’re sticking it to someone or making a statement by not voting but in reality it’s important and we can’t have that happen.”

As part of his initiative, Simon is working on a bill that would allow true early voting in Minnesota 15 days prior to the election which Simon says would be less complicated and expensive than absentee voting.

“True early voting means you’re under game day conditions, going to a polling place 15 days before and putting that ballot right in the machine. It’s peace of mind for the voter, it’s cost saving for local governments and it’s something that more and more states are doing to provide more variety, flexibility and more ways to get involved,” Simon said.

Simon also took a tour of Iron Range Businesses during his his visit up North.
