If you wanted to grab a bite to eat and help families in need at the same time, Subway was the place to be Thursday afternoon!

Thursday marked Subway’s first “Feed the Northland Drive.”

If customers brought in a non-perishable food item or cash donation, they received a free 6″ sub.

Subway says this time of year is important because food banks tend to get a lower level of donations after the holiday’s.

General Manager of Northland Subways, Brian Haedrich, says the community support was outstanding.

“It’s unbelievable how loyal our customer basis has been.  People embrace us and embrace this whole thing we are doing.  I mean, I’ve got people just coming in who don’t want anything and are just dropping off bags of food and telling us “thank you very much for helping us out.” People just want to do something,” Haedrich stated.

Donations went to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.

“It’s so important for us to be involved in the community.  We are all community involved.  So, when you see a need like that and an opportunity to help out, I mean we need to step up and do something.”

Management hopes to make this an annual event.
