Thursday night, the vision of developing the St. Louis River Corridor took a step forward with homeowners who live in the area.
Since Mayor Don Ness has proposed his vision for the area, the Riverside and Smithville neighborhoods have jumped on board hoping to make their backyards the newest tourist destination.
Future plans are now gaining momentum at a grass-roots level.
With more than 80 community members coming together, it’s clear they want to be a part in what future developments might be in their backyard.
So, if development would happen, what would it be?
Plans for parks in open spaces, trails, economic development and transportation are all ideas for the future land use.
Community developers agree and say there is a lot within the area to work with.
“Munger trail, Spirit Mountain, the marina — all sorts of plains for park and trail development into the future for the area too,” said Breanne Rothstein, community planner for WSB & Associates.
City officials are looking to use the corridor for residential opportunities.
