In this week’s Knowing Your Neighbor’s we take a trip to Spooner, Wisconsin.
A popular tourist attraction in the summer, it boasts some delicious dining year round.
If you’re looking for a home cooked and healthy meal like Ma used to make, stop in at Piller’s Poor Boys.
“We built it when our kids were growing up so they had a place to work when they were growing up. We had 5 kids between the two of us,” said Owner Mary Piller.
Piller and her husband opened up shop 8-years ago.
“We bought it from a real estate company.Jeff gutted it out and re–did everything in here and opened it up – not really sure what was going to happen,” said Piller.
Success is what would happen for the couple.
At first glance the restaurant’s décor screams “Up North!”
“The canoe is old, it’s 100-years-old. We bought it and restored it,” explained Piller as she talked about a canoe on the ceiling.
Plus, who could forget about the black bear by the cash register, it’s a staple for kids to grab tootsie rolls.
Be sure to come hungry and leave room for dessert.
“We have a sandwich called a Poor Boy. It’s made on honey cracked wheat bread – they come in three sizes and they’re served warm. You pick what kind of meat you want and then it comes with vegetable toppings,” said Piller.
