Orphan Gosling Adopted into New Family of Geese

Lake Superior Zoo Helps Gosling Find New Siblings

An orphan gosling found in a parking lot has been adopted into a new family of geese on the grounds of The Lake Superior Zoo.

Right away, the little guy flew toward the other goslings, took a step away, then the others approached it, rubbed against it, and just like that accepted their new sibling.

“Any gosling that’s found by itself is going to be susceptible to being a prey,” said Maicie Sykes, Director of Animal Management at the Lake Superior Zoo. “It can’t really protect itself, it can’t fly yet, so if you can find an adopted family for it, that’s the best case scenario.”

Zoo officials say geese tend to be more accepting than other species of water fowl.
