For law enforcement officers in St. Louis County, Thursday was a day of remembrance and a day for prayer.

The Duluth Holiday Inn played host to the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Prayer Breakfast.

It began as a memorial to Duluth Police Sergeant Gary Wilson, who was killed in the line of duty in April, 1990.

The prayer breakfast is a way for officers to honor and remember cops who sacrificed their lives for service.

Kevin Norton is the Executive Director for the St. Louis County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.

Norton says there is a lot of negativity toward law enforcement in recent times, after several high-profile cases of police violence have made headlines.

“I haven’t seen it this way since back in the ’60s in the anti–war movement and they were calling cops pigs,” Norton explained. “That kind of negativity is here again. And [these officers] need to know that there are people in the community who really do care about them and care about the sacrifices they make.”

This is the 26th year for the Law Enforcement Memorial Prayer Breakfast.
