Arson Under Investigation on the Iron Range
Authorities Suspect Arson in Hibbing Fire
The Hibbing Fire Department responded at 3:43 a.m. to a report of house on fire.
Fire crews arrived to the scene at 406 Mitchell Avenue at 3:48 a.m. to the home engulfed in flames.
Crews immediately worked to protect neighboring homes as flames poured from the front and side of the house.
The house was previously damaged in a fire on Christmas Eve 2014.
The home was vacant and was currently undergoing renovation from the previous fire.
At 5:51 a.m. it was determined that an excavator was needed to demolish the remaining structure due to concerns of the structure collapsing.
Fire crews cleared the scene at 9:53 a.m.
The building was a total loss and damage is estimated to be $15,000.
The fire is currently under investigation but appears to be ARSON.
The cooperative investigation is being done in conjunction with the Hibbing Fire Marshal, Hibbing Police Department, and the State Fire Investigator.
There were no reported injuries for this fire.
One adjacent building sustained damage to its siding.

The fire containment was successful in part due to the great mutual aide response from the neighboring fire departments.
