Food, Sides to Put on Grill for Memorial Day Weekend

Prepping For the Big Feast

Sorry, this video is no longer available

It’s hard to believe but Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer is nearly here.

But, before we all happily slip into that summer mode, there is still much to get done!

Memorial Day is a big foodie day and prepping the big feast takes a lot of time.

Tis the season for farmer’s markets, corn on the cob, grilling and picnics.

Many family gatherings will feature a wide array of BBQ and grilled meats.

“We’ve got steaks.  All the good steaks.  Top quality,” said the manager of Superior Meats, Mike Cragin.

Superior Meats is one of the places with everything you need.

From kabobs (steak, beef, etc.) to stuffed chicken (crab and cream cheese, bacon cream cheese and jalapeno cream cheese) to pork (bacon wrapped pork, hickory rubbed pork chops).

But, you can’t have all that meat without a side.

Second item on the menu: Potato salad.

Aside from the 800 pounds of potato salad workers will be making at Mount Royal, you’ll find plenty of coleslaw and salads.

“We will 2-3 different varieties of coleslaw and potato salad.  A lot of salads we make are fresh from scratch everyday.” said the Deli Manager at Mount Royal, Bruce Schneider.

You can of course prepare any of these choices in the comfort of your own kitchen.

But, the flavor is only possible from the heat of an open flame that will bring a lot of folks outdoors to cook.

That’s right, a new grill!

“If you need tongs or spatulas, charcoal, propane, all that stuff,” said the G.M of the West Duluth Menards, Ken Matheson.
