A small group of people gathered at the Lakewalk’s peace statute Monday afternoon for a Memorial Day ceremony of remembrance.
The event was held by the local chapter of Veterans for Peace.
They honored many more than just our service members.
“We’re honoring those activists who have sacrificed themselves for all of the causes, for peace, for justice over the years,” said Chapter 80 President of Veterans for Peace Philip Anderson.
The organization said war is not the answer and it’s pivotal we all come together in peace.
The guest speaker was a man newly released from federal prison for his work with a group opposing nuclear weapons.
