The greater downtown council is looking for volunteers to help make the waterfront beautiful.

The 13th annual dig in for the downtown waterfront event kicks off at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Bayfront Park.

Greater Downtown Council President, Kristi Stokes is organizing the event.

“We have about 150 streetscape planters that need to be filled with flowers and they’re all at Bayfront Park,” Stokes said Thursday.

“Once that is done, city crews will work with us to get them back out onto the streets.”

Stokes noted that anyone interested in taking part in the event should bring their own gardening gloves and tools.

According to Stokes the event usually takes about one hour.

After the planting is done, volunteers will be provided with a free lunch provided by the Inn on Lake Superior.
