Representatives are hoping the attire change would encourage more Wisconsinites to hunt and appeal to women.

The representative behind it, Nick Milroy, is from South Range, Wisconsin.

Some hunters in the area are excited for the option and others say it’s sexist.

Hunting fires a huge economic factor in Wisconsin.

“We’ve been looking for creative and innovative ways to get more people interested in this sport,” said Milroy.

Milroy is ready to market different types of hunting apparel.

His goal is to empower everybody to make the trek into the woods.

“This is all about choice and making sure people are safe in the woods.,” he said.

Avid hunter, Angie Sapik from Poplar, is all for the proposed bill.

“It it could be something to potentially get more women in the field than I think it would be helpful so why not?” she said.

In fact, she says it would be helpful.

“It’s something different and it would separate everything that I have from my dad and brother,” Sapik said.

On the other hand, Wendy Stauty, wife of an avid hunter, thinks the bill is sexist.

“We don’t want to be set back by saying you can hunt if you wear pink.  That’s just silly,” said Stauty.

Northwest Outlet in Superior already has an outpouring of requests and says the bill could pose a huge economic impact.

“There’s definitely people asking for pink.  We’ll be able to carry both colors,” said assistant manager, Scott Miller.

As for the legislative side, Milroy is hoping to zero in on the bill before deer population hits an all-time low.

“We need to build the ranks to make sure we can keep our wildlife populations properly managed,” said Milroy.

The bill is looking for co-sponsors.

A public hearing is set for the fall with hopes of passing before hunting season.

If it passes, Wisconsin would be the first in the nation to allow hot pink in the woods.
