Two hikers passed through Duluth Monday while on a history–making, journey of a lifetime.
The men, James Thomas and Seth Siladke, are following The North Country Trail, a 4,600 mile trek from North Dakota to Vermont.
Their hike began March 20 and the guys are on pace to end in late October or early November.
That would allow them to join a group of less than 10 others to accomplish this feat in less than a year.
“It’s like looking at this giant mountain that you can’t see the top of and it just keeps looming and looming, and some days it seems like it never gets much shorter,” said Thomas.
While the guys are looking to join an elite group of hikers, their main goal is to raise awareness about what they call the under–appreciated North Country Trail.
“It’s just such a diverse and rich trail,” described both men. “It’s very amazing, everything that it has to offer and how close it is to people and people don’t even realize.”
In reaching Duluth, the guys are at about mile 1,200 of their hike.
