Congressman Rick Nolan is calling on lawmakers to support his idea to redefine politics.

He announced his plan, called “Restore Democracy,” in Duluth Monday afternoon.

Nolan’s goal is to put an end to excessive campaign spending.

The resolution is made up of seven critical measures, which according to Nolan, are all common sense.

He says increased transparency of campaign funds, limits on when, where and how money can be raised, as well as a 60–day campaign period are some key aspects in ending partisanship across our nation.

Nolan says spending massive amounts of money on election campaigns causes a corrupt public policy process in Washington, rather than a system that gets things accomplished.

“This country has a long history of movements that are designed to improve the human condition, improve the art of governance so that it is truly representative of the people, and that’s what this is all about,” Nolan declared.

Nolan says he has been working on this legislation for more than two years now.

While he acknowledged the fact that big ideas like this require long debates at the national level, he says this is an effort to begin the conversation, ignite the debate, and get everyone across our country thinking and talking about his blueprint.
