Ruby Red Slipper Search Continuing

Slippers Stolen from Museum in 2005

A pair of ruby red slippers Judy Garland wore in “The Wizard of Oz” were stolen from a Grand Rapids Museum in 2005.

Last week, volunteer divers with the Itasca County Sheriff’s Department plunged into the Tioga Mine Pit in search of the slippers.

Rumors had led them to that location.

Last week, FOX 21 told you about possible evidence found during a practice dive.

We can now reveal those items are a small camouflage duffle bag and a tin can.

According to Rob Feeney, the museum’s volunteer in charge of acquisitions, these items do not have any remnants of the slippers with them.

These items were turned over to Grand Rapids Police and studied by a biologist.

Grand Rapids Police urge anyone with information to call.
