“Slide the City” Brings 1,000 Foot Slide to Duluth

"Operation Warm" to Host Unique Event

Duluthians won’t need a water fountain or air conditioning to stay cool on July 25th.

Instead, they’ll have a chance to splash down a 1,000 foot water slide!

It’s called ‘Slide the City.’

It’s something that’s never been done in Minnesota and Duluth is the perfect fit considering we’re built on one giant hill.

Organizers say it’s bound to be a splashing good time!

Twelfth Avenue East and 2nd Street down to the Rose Garden on London Road will transform into one large slip and slide.

The event is being put on by the Duluth Fire Department Local 101 to help raise money for “Operation Warm.”

It’s a program which aims to provide winter coats for kids.

“People come here in the summer to enjoy our lake, hills and they view.  This is a great opportunity to do something different while you’re here and help a good cause. So, we are hoping it has a regional draw and really gets people into the spirit of Duluth,” said Duluth Firefighter and Co-Chair of “Operation Warm,” John Otis.

The public can also make a donation when they purchase their tickets.

The fire department is waiting for the final details on their permit from the city.

Once that is complete, registration will open to the public.

There will only be 6,000 tickets available.

So, get ready for the slide of your life and purchase them right away!

The event is scheduled for July 25th from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
