Tree Narrowly Misses Power Lines

Some early morning storms that rumbled through the Twin Ports Monday ended up being strong enough to cause a little damage.
In one Duluth neighborhood, an old cottonwood tree was uprooted.
Fortunately for those on Norwood Street, the tree landed on another tree, and not the power lines.
The owner of the house was not inside during the storms, but he says his daughter was.
The tree avoided hitting the house and surrounding vehicles.
One neighbor we spoke to said he knew the old tree had started to lean, even before these storms pushed it over.
“Well, these big old cottonwoods – they’re not always the trees with the most long life,” said neighbor Tjaard Breeuwer. “So at some point when they get that big they tend to come down. So I guess that it fell was not a huge surprise.”
There were branches scattered around through much of their street.
Contractors from Minnesota Power also arrived to help clean up the fallen tree and surrounding debris.
